Size: 3 to 6 months

Gauge: 4.5 sts / 6 rows = 1” keyplate 2 dot or bulky tension 3.

Materials: 1 oz worsted weight yarn.  Sample knit with red heart yarn.

1. With waste yarn, open cast on 33 sts.  Knit a few rows.  Change to main yarn leaving a 2 ft. before beginning row.  Row counter = zeros.
2. Knit to row counter 7.
3. Place all but the first 12 sts in hold position.  Knit row.
4. Drop main yarn but do not cut.
5. With waste yarn knit a few rows.  Remove hem or cast on comb and remove knitting from machine.
6. Turn knitting so knit side is facing and rehang center 9 sts below waste yarn.   Use claw weights on center sts.
7. Move carriage to side with main yarn.  Thread carriage with main yarn and knit 1 row.  Set row counter to zeros.

8. Pick up 1 stitch below waste yarn, closest to knitting on machine on side opposite the carriage side and place on end needle.  When picking up stitches, fold knitting on waste yarn towards knitting on machine to form sides of foot.
9. Repeat step 8 to row counter 11.
10. Pick up st for next row as in step 8 but then open out knitting so knit side is showing and hang remaining 6 sts on that side on machine below waste yarn.  Knit row.
11. With right side facing, hang 6 sts left, below waste yarn on opposite side.  Knit row.
12. Knit 16 rows or to row counter 29.  Bind off.
13. To sew sole (beginning knitting on waste yarn) you can either graft them together with kitchener stitch or hang half the stitches below waste yarn on machine, push stitches behind latches, hang second half of stitches on same needles and knit stitches together.  Bind off.
14. Sew back seam.  Weave in any ends.
You can also work ribbing on last 16 rows to form rib instead of a roll.
Once you make one pair of these fun booties, you will be sure to invent lots of variations.
To make a larger size, use a thicker yarn and a higher keyplate or tension.
